Annie and James
Annie Pearl Carr was born on August 30, 1911 in Trigg County, Kentucky. She was the seventh of nine children born to Thomas Jefferson Carr and Daisy Dean Sumner Carr. Thomas was a farmer and a grocery store operator. He was a native of Stewart County, Tennessee. Daisy was a native of Trigg County. Annie was a descendant of Drewry Bridges.
Annie’s siblings were Louise Carr, born in 1896 and married George Edison Feltner; Mollie Elizabeth Carr, born in 1899 and married Elsie Perkins Carr; William Amos Carr, born in 1901 and died at the age of three; Jennie Mahalie Carr, born in 1903 and married Gilbert Scott Clark; Elna Norine Carr, born in 1906 and married Donella Bernice Rogers; Tommie Blanche Carr, born 1909 and died at the age of eight; Dorothy Dean Carr, born in 1914 and married Paul Judson Kingins; Clarence Jefferson Carr, born in 1918.
Although born in Trigg County, Annie spent most of her younger years in Stewart County, Tennessee and attended the local rural elementary schools. Her first job was teaching school at the Daisy Glen School located in the Tobaccoport community of Stewart County.
On March 26, 1932, while still a teacher in Tobaccoport, Annie married James Carroll “Buster” Kingins. James Carroll was born on April 23, 1910 in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, the son of Andrew Jackson Kingins and Samantha Emmaline Glasgow Kingins. Andrew was a farmer and both he and Samantha were natives of Stewart County, Tennessee. In a rare instance of siblings marrying siblings, Annie’s sister, Dorothy, also married James Carroll’s brother, Paul.
James Carroll was a farmer like his father and he and Annie settled in their home located on Shelby Creek, the same home where James had been born. The farm was located on the state line in both Stewart County, Tennessee and Trigg County, Kentucky. The offset in the Kentucky-Tennessee state line is located on this farm. The farm had been in the Kingins family for over 100 years. James Carroll worked as a farmer on this farm for his entire life. Annie continued to work as a school teacher until her retirement.
Annie and James were the parents of one child, a daughter, Sylvia Carol Kingins, born in 1942 and married Jackie Wade Alexander and later married William Ferrel Miller.
Annie died on October 3, 1991 at the age of 80 in the Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz. She was buried in the East End Cemetery in Cadiz. James Carroll died on April 12, 1999 at the age of 88 at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. He was buried in the East End Cemetery next to his wife.
